The Apsen Wall Poster - HST Signed
The Aspen Wall Poster # 4
These broadsheets edited by Hunter Thompson and designed by artist Tom Benton were first published in March, 1970 to raise political awareness for what Hunter called “The Battle of Aspen.” There were only four editions and this is the largest and most notorious # 4.
Hunter personally signed this one for me in 1985 at about 4 am after a long night planning the production of what would become “The Gonzo Pilot.” It is in what an archivist would rate as “very good” condition with no tears, and only one small smudge on the back page.
Hunter’s elaborate signature is just below the picture of Jillie which some considered pornographic but Hunter and Benton included it, as he explains in the poster, to make the point that real pornography would be a picture they almost used instead of the My Lai massacre. The local authorities seized all the # 4s they could find and tore out the picture of Jillie.
